Further training: Educational material on the decolonial memorial

Dear speakers of global learning,

The memorial EarthNest on the grounds of the Berlin Global Village in Berlin-Neukölln is the first decolonial memorial in Berlin. It commemorates the violent history of colonialism while honoring formerly colonized peoples and serving as a place of healing and connection. As a walk-in and multi-sensory place of remembrance, EarthNest invites you to convey colonial history not only through interviews and stories, but also to approach it spatially, physically, musically and through shared conversation.

The Blackademy e.V. is an educational and cultural association that makes black perspectives, history and knowledge production visible. For EarthNest, he has developed a multisensory educational material with target group-oriented offerings for primary schools, secondary levels I and II as well as for adults. The educational material addresses Germany's role in colonialism and the racist practice of the so-called “Völkerschau” in the late 19th century. At the same time, it focuses on anti-colonial resistance and black perspectives. The educational program includes, among other things, an age-appropriate role play as well as songs and instruments that can be tried out in practice during the training and then borrowed for your own educational work. The multisensory methods open up different learning approaches and are suitable for interdisciplinary use - especially in history and German lessons, in the social sciences as well as in the subjects of music, art and theater.

So that we can make the decolonial memorial symbol accessible to younger people through workshops in the future, we would like to invite you to get to know EarthNest and the associated educational material. During the training, we will present the historical and memory-political background of the memorial symbol, try out selected methods together and discuss how they can be used in an age-appropriate and discrimination-sensitive way in your own educational work.

We look forward to practically testing the educational material together with you and thinking further.

Speakers: Andrea-Vicky Amankwaa-Birago, Konstantin Bez
