Emeka Udemba, born in Nigeria, is an artist who studied Art Education at the University of Lagos. He lives and works in Freiburg, Germany. Over the years, Udemba has received numerous scholarships and grants from prestigious institutions in France, South Africa, and Germany such as the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Wüttemberg and the F. Victor Rolff Stiftung. In his practice, he uses contemporary art to draw attention to social issues in order to stimulate discussions and build stronger networks. As a migrant artist living in the diaspora, he explores themes of identity, otherness, systemic prejudice, and epistemic colonialism. His dedication has been recognized with several awards, including Best art practices – International Award for young curators for the project Lagos Open, Bozano, Italy, and the Reinhold Schneider Prize in Freiburg, Germany, 2022.
