The association grew over several years from an initiative of black / Afro-diasporic parents in Berlin. They dealt with recurring, everyday questions and specific challenges of raising their children. In Afro-diasporic contexts, seminars, conferences, workshops and lectures on these topics had already been organized and held with socio-educational professionals and addressed families. Recognizing that these issues require a special professional approach and mindset, professionals of African and German origin have come together and founded EMERGE e.V. together with the families and many supporters.
