Sapien (aka Steve Anwar) is a British Sculpture Artist, born and raised on a council estate in Sheffield, the steel city. He draws from his heritage bringing together Eastern philosophies with the industrial heritage of the North of England. Over the past decades Sapien studied self-help practices and ancient meditation techniques which not only aided his recovery from a severe illness but also profoundly influenced his artistic training. Leveraging his design background and meditation training, Sapien now specializes in creating spiritual steel sculptures that incorporate hidden poems. In both 2023 and 2024 he was long-listed for the prestigious Aesthetica Magazine Art Prize, earning a double page spread in their Future Now anthology and a digital screen presence at the group exhibition at York Art Gallery.
