A monumental floor mosaic made from recycled red and yellow broken tiles designed jointly by »People of Color (PoC) and local white residents«. With pictures, words and symbols, it addresses aspects that from the participant’s point of view are worth protecting such as body, rights, culture, loved ones, dreams, property, jobs, nature and global peace.
In a public studio, the participants will have space for their individual formulations. The participatory design results in individual ways of expressions, belongingness and trust. The participants will wear red T-Shirts, will be catered for and get an appropriate compensation. The mosaic designers, including asylum seekers, apprentices and locals, piece together individual motives from broken stoneware tiles under the supervision of an experienced transcultural group of artists. The pieces fixed to a PVC scrim will then be laid by a tiling company into the prepared bed of screed.
The composition of the mosaic will be led by the all-over-principle, similar to the making of a berber carpet, which results in a creative flow within a collective process. Without an optical centre, the joint project can be accessed from different directions and thus can be perceived differently each time. Inclusion and communication are fundamental. An experienced Westafrican-European leadership team promotes artistic collaboration, intervenes in case of violence and racist behaviour while politically educated experts advise on world religions.
