We had the honor of welcoming Prof. Dr. Walter D. Mignolo to Berlin Global Village yesterday!
He is one of THE leading thinkers in decolonial theory.
We had a chance to give him a personal tour of our buildings. Walter Mignolo showed particular interest in the Decolonial Memorial which is currently in construction in front of our buildings. He wanted to learn more about the impact the memorial aims to have on various communities.
Prof. Mignolo expressed his respect and appreciation for the 50 organizations based here and engaged in an exciting discussion about the causes of global injustice. Akinola Famson emphasized: "We cannot deconstruct colonialism if people do not know what colonialism is." A discourse that is to be continued with the Decolonial Memorial.
Prof. Walter D. Mignolo will contribute to the publication marking the project's conclusion. This article will contextualize the 20 finalist designs for a Decolonial Memorial within the framework of decolonial aesthetics.
