The red–green–red state government reaffirmed its support for the One World Center in the 2021–2026 coalition agreement. The state had already played a key role during the construction phase by approving an investment grant of €3.0 million in 2018. This enabled Berlin Global Village to take out €9 million in loans for the "new building", which is financed long term through tenants' rent. In addition, SIWA funds totaling €1.7 million were provided between 2020 and 2022 for refurbishment and equipment.
To support the programmatic work of Berlin Global Village, the governing coalition approved annual project funding of €247,000 in 2022 and €253,000 in 2023 as part of the state budget. We maintain a long-standing and constructive working relationship with the State Office for Development Cooperation in the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, which serves as our main point of contact.
Between 2020 and 2022, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supported Berlin Global Village with an investment grant of €1.8 million for refurbishment and equipment. This funding made it possible to equip the One World Center with modern facilities and further develop it into a central hub for development policy debate in the German capital, with the aim of generating impact nationwide.
The BMZ funding was based on a resolution of the German Bundestag within the 2019 federal budget. The funds were administered by the State of Berlin, through the State Agency for Development Cooperation, under an administrative agreement.
