Decolonize Berlin und Afrika-Rat Berlin-Brandenburg
The ongoing criticism of the Joint Declaration highlights that the German genocide of the Herero and Nama has not yet been addressed sufficiently. The lack of confrontation with this genocide, as well as the absence of serious apologies and reparations, continues to strain relations between the two countries and has therefore led to transnational alliances like #NoAmnestyOnGenocide. How can decolonial relations between Berlin and Windhoek be established and strengthened considering its violent colonial pasts—relations that acknowledge memories, strengthen justice, and rethink cooperation?
Under the title Reframing Relations: Memories, Justice, Cooperation, Decolonize Berlin is bringing together voices from civil society, academia, and professional practice.
The event will open with a performance by Prince Kamaazenga Marenga and a keynote by Sima Luipert, a representative of the Nama Traditional Leaders Association. This will be followed by a panel titled Groundwork Towards Decolonial Relations.
Organized as part of “25 Years of Twin Cities Windhoek – Berlin, the event aims to raise awareness of this partnership and provide impetus for its future.
