Berlin is working on a memorial about decolonization

The project Decolonial Memorial is a global, open and anonymous art competition with the aim to build a Decolonial Memorial: an artwork, reflecting on decolonization. The piece will be placed clearly visible on the forecourt of the Berlin Global Village and will be revealed to the public in fall 2024. The art competition and the creation of the artwork will be accompanied by an extensive educational program discussing Decolonization and innovative public relations.

NEWS: this is the winning design

The art competition for the Decolonial Memorial is over and the winners have been announced! The winning design is titled "Earth Nest" and comes from "The Lockward Collective". The artist have already dealt extensively with decolonial themes in their work. Find out more about the winning design in the news section.

Exhibition Opening

We will present the 20 finalist-submissions of the international art competition for the Decolonial Memorial to the public on April 26th, 2024! Even though, the Winners have been chosen we want to invite you to imagine the Decolonial Memorial in 20 possibilities. Come and picture how the Decolonial Memorial could have looked like at the exhibition opening. It will take place at the Foyer des Kulturstalls im Gutshof Britz (in cooperation with the Museum Neukölln), on April 26th, 2024, 7pm. The exhibition is accessible until May 10th, 2024.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS DECIDE AND ADVISE

During the evaluation and selection process, the Decolonial Memorial Project and Berlin Global Village are supported by a jury of specialist judges, expert judges, experts and coordinators with their expertise.
