Panel Event Unmapping Time am 26.2.2023 in Kooperation mit der Komischen Oper

Nothing seems to be as globally valid as Greenwich Mean Time. Whether in South Africa, Colombia or Germany – people structure their day according to it. But why does time globally tick in Greenwich Mean Time? Why do we calculate in hours, minutes and seconds? And above all, what are the political implications behind the seemingly objective Greenwich Mean Time? What does the clock have to do with colonization? Cultural scholars Aleida Assmann and Jan Assmann, musician and activist Moor Mother, and artist and activist Rasheedah Philipps – co-founders of the collective Black Quantum Futurism (BQF) – as well as author and critic Eugene Yiu Nam Cheung will take a critical look at our understanding of time and explore new, more decentralized ways of tapping into our planet.

Guests: Aleida Assmann, Jan Assmann, Moor Mother and Rasheedah Philipps (Black Quantum Futurism), Eugene Yiu Nam Cheung. Moderated by Michael Küppers-Adebisi (Berlin Global Village) and Julia Jordà Stoppelhaar (Komische Oper), concept and setup: Tilman Hecker
